From a borderland – Friuli Venezia Giulia – the craft of chair-making took root in the nineteenth century. Small workshops, where business and family life were deeply intertwined, gave rise to a working community that, by the latter half of the twentieth century, had evolved into a classic industrial district. Meanwhile, chairs themselves were undergoing radical transformations in Italy and around the world.
With the arrival of the new millennium, new materials, dimensions, and forms have become the voice of contemporaneity – emblematically represented by the creations of the companies featured in this book. Their work reflects a growing focus on research, innovation, and design: all essential elements for meeting new challenges, engaging with diverse cultures, and anticipating the trends of the future.
