The MART in Rovereto pays tribute to its creator, architect Mario Botta (Mendrisio, 1943), author of the project with the collaboration of engineer Giulio Andreolli, with a major exhibition documented in this catalog.
Botta’s architectural itinerary, which finds its origins in the interpretation of the tradition of the Modern Movement, is configured today as a critical point of reference with respect to the fragility of the models and fashions offered by globalization: his projects embody essential forms that shape the living space of man and that, respecting the functions to which they must respond, aspire to offer unprecedented emotions.
The volume reproposes about sixty of Botta’s most significant works from his many years of successful professional activity, documented with original sketches and models, photographs and unpublished drawings: from the first single-family houses, original expressions of the Ticino school, to the large public buildings, libraries, theaters, museums and spaces of the sacred, created all over the world.
Special attention is given to lesser-known topics such as theater sets, exhibition layouts, and design objects.
Introducing the publication is an unpublished account by Botta on the suggestions and memories of artists and events that left a deep mark on his formation as a man and as an architect. The volume, with numerous critical contributions, is complemented by biobibliographical apparatus.
