À la fin des années 60, l’architecte Bernard Zehrfuss (1911-1996), figure majeure de l’après-guerre, est appelé à Lyon pour y créer le musée de la civilisation gallo-romaine. Dès sa première visite, il conçoit un édifice original et ambitieux, totalement intégré au site des théâtres romains de Fourvière.
Cet ouvrage, richement documenté, conçu sous la direction de Christine Desmoulins, critique d’architecture et spécialiste de Zehrfuss, retrace la carrière exceptionnelle de son créateur, la genèse du projet et les étapes de sa construction qui, recouverte de terre pour restituer le talus, s’efface pour laisser la primauté au site. C’est en effet l’architecture qui s’ajuste pour se mettre au service des œuvres présentées : une architecture d’avant-garde en parfaite symbiose avec le site archéologique.
Fruit d’une collaboration exemplaire entre architecte, muséographe et archéologues, Lugdunum – Musée et théâtres romains est devenu aujourd’hui une référence parmi les musées archéologiques. Ce livre par son sujet et son traitement, s’inscrit dans la liste des ouvrages faisant date dans l’histoire de l’architecture du XXème siècle.

Silvana Editoriale was founded in 1948 by Amilcare Pizzi, as a way of remembering his daughter Silvana, who died prematurely in 1944. Through his commitment and passion, Pizzi expanded its business by publishing books of enormous value.
